The best time and method for transplanting gardenias and which months are suitable for transplanting

Gardenia is a common ornamental flower grown in many places in China. In addition to its ornamental value, its fruits, leaves and roots can be used as medicine, and its flowers can be made into spices. The transplanting technique of gardenia is very important for its later growth.

Gardenia transplanting time

It is generally recommended to transplant gardenias in spring and autumn, specifically in mid-February and mid-October. The temperature and humidity during these two periods are more suitable for transplanting gardenias. Transplanting at this time can ensure that there will be no major problems in the subsequent growth. Gardenias cannot be transplanted in summer, rainy season, and flowering period. Forced transplanting at this time will cause the death of gardenias.

Gardenia transplanting technology

1. Get out of the basin

Take out the gardenia first. Do not water it for a few days before taking it out. Keep the soil slightly dry so that it will be easier to transplant and plant it. Then move the gardenia to an open location and prune the plant appropriately, cutting off all rotten roots, old roots, and dead roots.

2. Prepare the soil

First of all, you need to choose a transparent flowerpot according to the size of the gardenia plant. It is best if it has drainage holes at the bottom. Then prepare fertile, loose, well-drained acidic soil. Generally, the soil used is a mixture of leaf mold, garden soil, sand and bone meal. After that, put some broken bricks at the bottom of the flowerpot and add an appropriate amount of soil.

3. Transplanting

Straighten the gardenia seedlings and plant them in the soil, then water the soil thoroughly to keep it moist. You can also spray some water around the gardenia plants appropriately, then place the gardenia in a cool place first, and then gradually increase the sunlight exposure after about a week of adaptation.

Management of Gardenia after transplantation

Gardenia prefers a more humid environment. The same is true after repotting, so the surrounding humidity requires a higher level. Plants that have just been transplanted are generally weaker, so they cannot be placed in direct sunlight. At this time, they need to be properly shaded or a semi-shaded place should be chosen.
