Cultivation methods and precautions of hydroponic asparagus fern

Hydroponics Method

Pruning and selection

Select a healthy and well-developed asparagus fern as the mother plant material for hydroponics. Take the asparagus fern out of the pot with the soil, carefully wash off the soil at its roots, remove the rotten roots, and cut off some of the old roots. Then wash the leaves and plants with clean water to avoid damaging the plants. Asparagus fern takes a long time to take root and its fleshy roots are delicate, so be careful when picking it so as not to damage its roots.

Disinfection and colonization

It is best to use a planting basket for hydroponic asparagus fern. Fix the cleaned plants in the planting basket, and allow the roots to fully stretch when fixing.

Then put the plant together with the planting basket into 1‰ carbendazim solution and soak the roots for 30 minutes. Take it out and put it in a cool place. After the roots become soft, you can proceed to the next step.

Hydroponics

The previous steps are just preparations, the highlight is coming. Add special nutrient solution for asparagus fern into the hydroponic container, and place the treated plants (together with the planting basket) into the hydroponic container.

When placing it, 2/3 should be placed in water, and a part of the roots should be exposed to the air to ensure that the roots can breathe freely.

Maintenance

Watering and temperature control

After hydroponics, spray water on the leaves twice a day and control the temperature at 15-25℃. New roots will grow in two weeks. During this period, you need to change the water frequently, once every 3 to 5 days.

After three to four weeks, the asparagus fern will have a lot of new roots, so you can reduce the need to change water and add expanded clay to stabilize the plant. After rooting, foliar fertilizer should be added every week.

Rooting and lighting

Before rooting, the plant should be placed in semi-shaded place for maintenance. After rooting, new leaves will slowly grow and additional light is needed. Generally, hydroponic asparagus fern is placed near a window with light, but not in a place exposed to direct sunlight, and it should be kept ventilated. After rooting, always observe the water level in the hydroponic container and add water in time.

Replace nutrient solution

It is best to use a special nutrient solution for asparagus fern hydroponics. The maintenance of asparagus fern hydroponics is much easier than that grown in soil. You only need to pay attention to changing the water at ordinary times, about 7-10 days in summer and about 20 days in winter. You only need to replenish the nutrient solution every time you change the water.
