How to plant orchids and precautions The correct way to plant orchids

Orchids are not only evergreen all year round, but their flowers also have a fresh fragrance. However, planting orchids is not an easy task. You need to understand the characteristics of orchids, choose potting soil with good air permeability, and avoid watering too frequently after planting, so that they can take root faster.

How to grow orchids

1. Choose a pot: Orchids have well-developed root systems, so it is suitable to choose a larger pot to give them sufficient growth space. Before planting orchids, you need to use tiles and stones to pave the bottom of the pot to increase its drainage. The height of the filler should not exceed half of the depth of the pot to avoid affecting its air permeability.

2. Potting: Place loose and fertile soil on top of the filler in the flowerpot, compact it to a thickness of about 2-3 cm, plant the orchid plant in the soil, and ensure that its branches and leaves have enough space to grow.

3. Planting: Plant the orchid vertically in the soil to avoid it from tilting. Lift it gently to relieve the pressure on the roots. Shake the plant and the pot to combine them tightly together. Compact the soil around the plant and adjust the height of the plant to 2-3 cm beyond the mouth of the pot.

4. Paving: After planting orchids, a layer of small stone particles or moss can be spread on the surface of the potting soil to prevent bacteria from infecting the soil and plants, and to improve its ornamental value. It should also be watered thoroughly at one time, and then placed in a cool and ventilated place after watering.

Points to note when planting orchids

1. Soil selection

Orchids are mainly grown in loose, well-breathable soil, generally humus soil, or homemade culture soil made of leaf mold and perlite. Usually leaf mold and river sand are mixed in a ratio of 8:2.

2. Appropriate fertilization

Orchids are fertilizer-loving plants. They need appropriate amounts of fertilizer during their growth period, and the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium must be properly controlled. Do not apply excessive nitrogen fertilizer to avoid crazy growth of branches and leaves, which will affect flowering. The specific fertilization time is the beginning of spring each year, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, with a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer.

3. Watering requirements

The amount of watering for orchids needs to be determined according to the growth conditions and climate. Water them every 2-3 days in spring and autumn, water them in the morning and evening in summer, and water them once a week in winter. There are certain requirements for water quality. Rainwater or snow water is best, and tap water should be stored for 2-3 days before use.

4. Growth environment

Orchids prefer a warm environment, and the suitable growth temperature is between 16-24 degrees. When the temperature is below 5 degrees, they need to be moved to a warm room and the temperature should be controlled at 10 degrees. Orchids are not resistant to sunlight exposure, so they need to be shaded in spring, summer and autumn. They can be planted in scattered light indoors in winter.
