How much is the average yield of garlic per mu? What is the cost and income of planting one mu of garlic?

Garlic yield per mu

The yield of garlic per mu is related to climate, variety, and planting management. Under normal circumstances, if managed properly, one mu of land can produce 3,000 kilograms of fresh garlic. The yield of new garlic land is about 3,000 kilograms per mu, and the yield of regularly planted land is about 2,500 kilograms per mu.

Garlic planting prospects

Generally, 350 to 400 kilograms of garlic seeds are needed per mu of land, with an investment cost of 1,750 to 2,000 yuan, plus other costs such as fertilizers, pesticides, and labor of 2,500 yuan, so each mu costs 4,500 yuan. Based on the yield of 3,000 kilograms per mu and the market price of 4 yuan per kilogram, the income from garlic per mu is 12,000 yuan. Excluding costs, the profit is 7,500 yuan per mu.

In addition, the demand for garlic is basically stable. As the subsequent garlic production decreases, the price will still have room to rise. In addition, the long storage period of garlic provides garlic traders with a lot of room for speculation, so it is relatively easy to make a profit by growing garlic.

How to grow garlic for high yield

1. Seed selection

The size of garlic seeds affects the yield. The larger the garlic cloves, the more nutrients they contain, and the seedlings that grow have well-developed root systems. Choose garlic grains that are moderate in size, relatively smooth, and without obvious damage or insect and disease spots as seeds. Dry them in the sun for two days before sowing to increase the germination rate.

2. Planting method

Plant the garlic cloves into the soil with the garlic heads facing downwards, at a depth of about three to five centimeters. Then cover them with a layer of soil. When planting, the distance between two plants should be controlled at five centimeters. Water the soil sufficiently so that the garlic seedlings can grow faster.

3. Water and fertilizer management

When planting garlic, be sure to keep the soil moist. Water it again after two days, then cover it with a layer of film. After 7 days, when the garlic seedlings grow out, remove the film so that they can receive more sunlight.

When the garlic seedlings grow to 5 cm, you can apply decomposed organic fertilizer and spread it evenly on the ground. When deep plowing, mix the soil and fertilizer evenly. Topdressing should be combined with watering. At the same time, the land should be cultivated and weeded to increase soil permeability and prevent compaction.
