How to prepare cactus soil? The best formula for nutrient soil for growing cacti

Cactus soil preparation requirements

Cacti like sunlight, warmth and are drought-resistant. They like to grow in sandy soil with good drainage, looseness, breathability and rich in nutrients. They are afraid of acidic soil. There are many materials to choose from for preparing cactus soil, such as coarse sand, Akadama, wood ash, coal ash, volcanic rock, vermiculite, coconut bran, etc. You can use granular soil, leaf mold and other materials in proportion to make suitable soil for planting.

How to prepare cactus soil

1. The soil required for cactus planting requires sandy soil with good drainage and air permeability and loose soil. We can use a mixture of 2 parts of loam, 2 parts of leaf mold, 3 parts of coarse sand, and 1 part of lime to plant cacti, or use a matrix of 2 parts of vermiculite, 2 parts of fine sand, and 1 part of humus to ensure good air permeability of the soil.

2. After mixing the above substrate soil, add a little bone meal. This will ensure that it is water-permeable and breathable while also providing the nutrients needed for the growth of the cactus. When planting, it is best to put a small amount of gravel and tiles at the bottom of the flowerpot, and then fill it with soil.

Precautions for preparing cactus soil

The soil environment suitable for the growth of cactus is slightly alkaline, so when preparing cactus soil, it is necessary to ensure that the pH value of various substrates is between 7.0 and 7.5. Excessively acidic or alkaline soil is not conducive to the growth of cactus and will cause root rot.
