When is the best time to plant asparagus?

Where does asparagus grow?

Reeds are suitable for growing in the soil. Reeds have strong adaptability and can grow in both high temperatures and low temperatures. They can be planted anywhere. It is best to plant reeds in places with distinct four seasons. The soil should be loose, thick and have strong water permeability.

Asparagus is native to the eastern coast of the Mediterranean and Asia Minor. Reeds are mainly distributed in Fujian, Henan, Shaanxi, Anhui, Sichuan, Tianjin and other places in my country. They are also grown in Peru, Germany, France, Spain, the United States, Japan and other foreign regions.

1. Growth habits

   Reeds can be grown in both the north and south of my country. The yield is higher and the quality is lower in areas where the winter is not cold, while the quality is higher and the yield is lower in cold areas. Asparagus is suitable for growing in loose and breathable soil with deep soil layer, low groundwater level and good drainage.

2. Growth temperature

   When asparagus seeds germinate, the temperature is 10℃, and the most suitable temperature for germination is 25-30℃. Seedlings will emerge in about 11 days. Reed plants grow fastest when the temperature is 20-30℃, and grow slowly when the temperature is below 15℃.

Generally, 5-6℃ is the lowest acceptable temperature for reed growth. Tender stems begin to emerge from the soil surface at temperatures above 10℃. The quantity and quality of tender stems are better at 15-17℃, and the quality is poor when the temperature is above 30℃.
