Can elm trees be transplanted in winter?

Elm trees can be transplanted in winter. They have a certain degree of cold resistance and can survive transplanting in all seasons. However, it is still recommended to transplant them in winter and spring. At this time, the trees are in a dormant stage, and transplanting will cause less damage to them, and it will not hinder germination in spring. They have basically adapted to the new environment in spring and can grow new buds and leaves normally.

Winter transplanting method of elm

1. Choose a flower pot

When transplanting elm trees, choose varieties with strong vitality and high survival rate. As long as the roots are well developed, the tree will survive. Choose the flowerpot according to the size of the plant, and choose a clay pot or purple clay pot with good air permeability.

2. Prepare the soil

When transplanting elm trees, use loose, fertile, and well-breathable soil. Add a small amount of moss and cement to increase soil drainage and reduce the occurrence of water accumulation. Note that the potting soil should not be too sticky and should not contain too much sand.

3. Start transplanting

Soak the new flowerpot in clean water for an hour, take out the elm tree from the original pot and place it in a cool place. After soaking, dry the new flowerpot and take it out. Fill the pot with soil and transplant the elm tree into the soil.

While filling the soil, pat the soil and compact it so that the soil in the middle of the pot is higher than the surrounding area. After the soil is filled, spread the moss flat on the soil and water it thoroughly. Place the transplanted elm bonsai in a cool and ventilated place.

Precautions for transplanting elm trees

If you find that the shape of the elm bonsai is not good after transplanting it, you can prune it in time to ensure that it has a certain ornamental value. Water the transplanted elm according to its growth status, keep the potting soil moist, and the plant's epidermis moist. Do not water too much to reduce the occurrence of water accumulation.
