Corn planting and harvesting time in the South

Corn planting time in the south

Corn in the south can be sown in spring and autumn. If you want to plant spring corn, you can sow it from early March to early April. If you want to plant autumn corn, you can sow it from late June to mid-July.

Corn harvest time in the south

The sowing time of corn in the south is different, so the harvesting time is also different. If it is sown in March and April in spring, it can be harvested around July in summer. If it is sown in July and August in summer, it can be harvested in November in autumn.

Key points for high-yield corn planting in the south

1. Seedling stage

After the corn seedlings in the south emerge from the soil, you can replenish moisture and water them frequently. At this time, the seedlings can be easily bitten off by pests such as cutworms in the field, so you need to bury some furandan granules next to them to repel insects. When the seedlings grow to about 30 cm, urea needs to be applied as top dressing. Remember to irrigate after top dressing.

2. Growth period

When corn grows to 30 to 40 centimeters in height, it will enter a rapid growth period. At this time, a large amount of nutrients is needed to promote the jointing of the stems. Generally, compound fertilizer is applied as topdressing. If the leaves grow too densely, some leaves need to be properly trimmed to prevent the plant's nutritional growth.

3. Fruiting period

After corn blooms, it is usually pollinated by the wind, but be careful not to get pollen from the neighboring planting areas, otherwise flower corn will grow. It takes about 20 days from the growth of the cob to maturity, and the grains can be harvested after they harden.
