When and how to plant pig ear beans

When and how to plant pig ear beans

Planting time of pig ear beans

Pig ear beans can be sown in spring, summer and autumn. If grown in a greenhouse, they can be grown all year round. The planting time in spring is February to March, the planting time in summer is May to August, and the planting time in autumn is September to October.

How to plant pig ear beans

1. Site selection and land preparation

When planting pig ear beans, be careful not to plant them continuously. It is best to choose a plot with deep soil, loose, fertile soil and good drainage for planting. After selecting the plot, you need to deep plow the soil first and add an appropriate amount of decomposed base fertilizer to improve the soil fertility.

2. Seed treatment

When planting pig ear beans, it is best to expose the seeds to the sun for 1-2 days before sowing, and then soak the bean seeds in 30-degree warm water for 5-6 hours to allow the seeds to absorb enough water. This way, when sowing, the seedlings will emerge faster.

3. Seeding and planting

Make ridges on the prepared land, then sow the pig ear bean seeds into the soil with a row spacing of 40 cm and a plant spacing of 30 cm. Sow 2 to 3 seeds in each hole and cover them with soil. Water once after planting to keep the soil slightly moist. After the seedlings emerge, thin out and replant them in time.

Precautions for planting pig ear beans

Pig ear beans are prone to many diseases and pests. You can spray the entire seedling with insecticide spray before flowering, and then spray it again when the beans grow out. This way, when the beans grow again, there will not be so many pests, and you don't have to worry about pesticide residues.
