How to propagate cherry trees and what are the propagation time and methods

Cherry tree propagation method

When propagating cherry trees, there are usually three main methods of propagation, namely cutting propagation, sowing propagation and grafting propagation. The most commonly used method is cutting propagation, which is generally carried out in the spring of each year. The climate at this time is more suitable, which is conducive to the rooting and sprouting of cherry trees.

Common propagation methods of cherry trees

1. Cherry tree seed propagation

Cherry trees can be propagated by sowing. They prefer a warm growing environment, so they can be sown in March in spring. When sowing, you need to choose fuller seeds, and then plant them in deep, loose, breathable, fertile neutral soil.

2. Cherry tree cutting propagation

Cherry trees are usually propagated by cuttings in the spring every year. The climate is warm and suitable at this time, which is conducive to the rapid rooting of branches. When propagating by cuttings, you need to cut a healthy and strong branch from the mother branch, then disinfect it, and then you can insert it into the soil.

3. Grafting of cherry trees

Cherry trees are usually grafted in mid-to-late March each year. You need to choose strong branches with 5-6 full buds in the middle. Then you need to cut the grafting buds on the grafting site. The size of the grafting buds should be moderate and not too small. Then you can proceed with the grafting and binding.
