Okra likes to grow in a warm environment and is suitable for sowing around April-June. There are differences in climate between the north and the south, so there are certain differences in sowing time. The temperature in the south is higher, so sowing can start in April. The temperature in the north is relatively low, so sowing can be started around May.

Okra seed planting method

1. Seed selection and germination

Select plump and healthy okra seeds, soak them in clean water for 12 hours, take them out and wrap them with wet cloth, place them in a warm environment to germinate, rinse them with clean water every day, and the seeds will generally germinate after 3-4 days.

2. Land preparation and fertilization

Before sowing okra, you need to prepare the land and provide loose and fertile soil. First, level the soil, and then apply fully decomposed farmyard manure to the soil. Apply 5,000 kilograms per mu, and also prepare some compound fertilizer. After applying the base fertilizer, you need to dig trenches and make ridges in preparation for sowing.

3. Sowing and seedling raising

Before sowing okra, you can water the soil thoroughly and then sow the seeds. Put 3 to 4 seeds in each hole and cover them with a layer of fine soil about 2 cm thick. Keep the temperature at around 25 degrees. Seedlings will emerge in 4-5 days and can be transplanted in one month.

Daily management precautions for okra

After okra emerges, pull out the small and weak seedlings, and keep two plants in each hole. Apply appropriate fertilizer. Urea is the most commonly used fertilizer, and 6-7 kilograms should be applied each time. In order to prevent the plant from falling over, you can install a support and remove old leaves in time to facilitate lighting and ventilation.
