Environmental conditions and characteristics of gourd growth

Gourd growth environment conditions and requirements

Gourds are cultivated in all parts of my country. The plants have good adaptability to the environment and prefer a warm, humid, sheltered growing environment. The planting site must have fertile soil and good irrigation conditions.

Gourd growth temperature

The optimum growth temperature of gourd is 15-28℃, and the night temperature should also be between 15-20℃. The plant has poor cold resistance, and the growth of the plant is slow below 5℃, which will also lead to a low fruiting rate.

Gourd growth humidity

Gourds have high requirements for water, so water them when the soil is dry and water them when the soil is wet. During the fruiting period, the humidity in the soil and air must not be too high, otherwise it may cause the flowers and young fruits to rot.

Gourd growing soil

Gourds prefer well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Before planting, large clods of soil should be broken up and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied. A layer of fine soil can also be added during the seedling period, which will be more conducive to increasing the yield of the gourd.

Gourd growth cycle and process

The growth of the gourd plant goes through stages such as germination, seedling, initial flowering and fruit-bearing. It takes 7 days from germination to the growth of the first leaf, 25 days to unfold 4-5 true leaves, and 50 days from the lengthening of the fruit stem to maturity.
