When and how to plant peppers

Pepper planting time

Peppers like a warm environment and are usually sown around April in spring and June in autumn. The temperature and humidity at this time are suitable for seed germination. The specific sowing time also needs to be adjusted according to the local ecological environment and weather conditions. If the temperature is too high, the sowing time needs to be postponed.

Pepper planting method

1. Seed soaking and germination

Before planting peppers, the seeds must be germinated first. The commonly used method is to soak the seeds. Soak the seeds in clean water, take them out after 2-4 hours, and then soak them in copper sulfate solution for 5 minutes. This can prevent diseases such as anthrax. Then clean them, put them in a wooden box, and cover them with a wet cloth to germinate.

2. Soil selection

The root system of peppers is weak and the requirements for soil are relatively high. It is best to provide neutral or weakly alkaline soil, never acidic soil. If the conditions are not met and the soil acidity is high, you can use lime powder to neutralize the soil. If the alkalinity is high, you can add coal slag to neutralize it. Finally, choose to plant peppers in sunny or gently sloping areas with sufficient light.

3. Planting

When sowing, spread the seeds evenly on the seedbed, cover with soil about 1 cm, spray water to moisten the soil, and control the temperature between 25-28 degrees. They will germinate in about a week. When the pepper seedlings grow to 5 cm, they should be transplanted. They should not be buried deep during transplanting, but should be covered with soil shallowly, about 2 cm.

Notes on pepper planting

1. The suitable temperature for pepper seeds to germinate is between 25 and 30 degrees. When the ambient temperature is higher than 35 degrees, the peppers will be sunburned, the leaves will turn yellow and fall off, and the fruits will also be stunted and then fall off. It is necessary to provide shade in time to prevent the peppers from dying.

2. Peppers are prone to insect pests during their growth period, and a warm and humid environment will also breed bacteria. It is necessary to observe the pepper leaves and fruits regularly. When you find that the fruits and leaves have signs of being bitten by insects or are rotten and yellow, you can use special agents to spray to eliminate insects and sterilize.
