Time and method of planting water spinach cuttings

Water spinach cutting planting time

Water spinach is suitable for growing in an environment with sufficient sunlight and a certain degree of humidity. It can germinate as long as the temperature is maintained above 15 degrees. Usually, the southern region can choose to plant cuttings between April and July. The temperature in the north is low, so it can be postponed to June-August.

How to plant water spinach by cuttings

1. Prepare the cuttings

When propagating water spinach cuttings, in order to increase the survival rate, you need to cut healthy branches with full buds from the mother plant as cuttings, cut them into 10 cm lengths, and then remove all the leaves, leaving only the petioles between the leaves and branches.

2. Soil selection

Water spinach has strong heat resistance but is not resistant to water and moisture. When propagating by cuttings, you must choose loose, permeable and well-drained soil. It is best to mix peat soil, sandy soil and garden soil in a ratio of 3:3:4.

3. Insert the seeds into the soil

Put the prepared soil into the flowerpot, then use a thick wooden stick to poke small holes in the soil surface, and then insert the water spinach cuttings into the holes. The cutting depth should be 1/3 of the branch. Finally, spray water to soak the soil and maintain sufficient diffuse light.

Precautions for planting water spinach cuttings

In order to ensure that the water spinach branches can take root quickly, the maintenance temperature needs to be controlled at 20-25 degrees. When the seedlings grow 5 leaves, top dressing can be applied. The fertilizer should mainly be thin and well-rotted organic fertilizer. When fertilizing, pay attention to watering along the edge of the flowerpot.
