How to propagate Monstera by cuttings How to propagate Monstera by cuttings

Monstera is a common foliage plant. It is very easy to grow. Common propagation methods include sowing, cuttings, and division. Among them, cuttings take root faster and have a higher survival rate in an environment with suitable temperature, so it is the most frequently used.

Monstera cutting time

When taking cuttings of Monstera, you must choose the right time. Generally, the best cuttings are obtained in April-May in spring and September-October in autumn . The climate is more suitable during these two periods, and the temperature can be maintained at around 20 degrees. The survival rate after cuttings is relatively high.

Monstera cutting method

1. Cut the cuttings

Cut strong branches from disease-free Monstera plants, and divide them into several sections, making sure each section has two nodes. Remove excess leaves. Do not use them for cuttings immediately after cutting, but place them in a well-ventilated place to dry.

2. Preparation of matrix

Choose soil that is breathable, loose and fertile, such as garden soil or leaf mold. Of course, you can also add some fine sand and other substances appropriately, which is more conducive to plant rooting and germination. In addition, the soil should be disinfected and sterilized after preparation to remove bacteria and insect eggs inside.

3. Take cuttings

Prepare a flowerpot of suitable size, fill it with soil, and insert the branches into the substrate, making sure the thin end is facing upwards and the rooted end is facing downwards, and slightly compact the surrounding soil.

Rooting of Monstera cuttings

After Monstera is cut, water the soil thoroughly to maintain moisture and keep the soil moist. The ambient temperature should be controlled between 25-27 degrees. Generally, it will take root one month after cutting .
