When and how to plant chili peppers

When and how to plant chili peppers

Planting time of chili pepper

The growth rate of chili pepper is relatively slow, starting in February and lasting until September. Seedlings are usually raised in mid-to-late February and transplanted in March-April. The suitable temperature for its growth is between 25-28 degrees. The yield will increase if the temperature is higher.

How to plant chili pepper

1. Site selection

Chili pepper is suitable for planting in deep, loose, fertile and well-drained soil. After selecting a plot of land, renovate the soil and expose it to the sun for a few days, or disinfect the seedbed with 500 times diluted 50% carbendazim wettable powder, then apply farmyard manure and make ridges to enhance the soil's drainage capacity and prevent water accumulation and root rot.

2. Seed selection

Choose high-quality, disease-resistant varieties of chili pepper. Before sowing, mix the seeds with 70% methyl thiophanate wettable powder. Sow them after drying. This can prevent and control damping-off and sudden wilt.

3. Seedling cultivation

Sow the seeds evenly on the seedling bed, then cover with a thin layer of soil, about 4 cm thick, and then cover with plastic film to maintain the temperature and humidity of the soil. Usually the seedlings can be transplanted when they are 10 cm long. The soil pit is 5-10 cm deep and the seedlings are 20-35 cm apart. Then fill the soil and water. Be careful when transplanting and do not break the seedlings.

Precautions for planting chili pepper

Apply farmyard manure once 15 days after transplanting the chili peppers. Regularly remove weeds in the field to reduce nutrient consumption. Safe herbicides can be used to remove weeds. Chili peppers usually begin to mature in mid-to-late August and should be harvested in time.
