Are orchids shade-loving or sun-loving plants?

Do orchids prefer shade or sun?

Orchids are shade-loving plants. Orchids generally refer to Cymbidium orchids, which are perennial herbs of the Asteraceae family. There are many varieties of them. When caring for them, be sure to place them in a semi-shaded environment because they are afraid of direct sunlight.

Orchid basking in the sun

Orchids have requirements for light. A cool and ventilated place helps their growth. Although orchids are shade-loving plants, they can also be exposed to the sun, but they are afraid of strong light.

Therefore, during the maintenance period, you should pay attention to shading. If you want it to grow faster, you must also ensure that it receives a certain amount of light, especially during its growth period, it should receive some light.

Growth habits of orchids

1. Orchids like to grow in places where the soil is loose and fertile, and the soil must be both permeable and breathable.

2. The soil needs to be kept moist during its growing period. If the rainfall is small during the rainy season, you must pay attention to removing the surrounding heat, otherwise its roots will rot. If the rainfall is heavy, you must pay attention to drainage.

3. It also needs light. In order to make its flowers gorgeous, it should be planted in a cool, ventilated and semi-shaded place. It also needs sunlight, but it should not be planted in a place with too strong light, as direct sunlight will burn it.

4. It is afraid of cold and grows slowly in winter when the temperature is below 19℃, but it is heat-resistant and can tolerate high temperatures in summer, so the most suitable temperature for its growth is 25-30℃.
