1. Advantages of grafting cultivationPurple Michelia can generally be propagated by cuttings and grafting. Now most of us adopt the grafting method. 1. Compared with cuttings, grafting does not have too many complicated requirements, which can greatly reduce the time flower lovers spend on cultivating Michelia rubra, and they can easily obtain vigorous plants. 2. The grafted Michelia purpurogenum plant will grow very fast, and generally you can enjoy its bright flowers after two to three years. 3. The biggest advantage of grafting is the high survival rate. In the same amount of time, we can get more healthy purple Michelia plants. 2. Technical pointsWe use the single bud method during the grafting process. 1. Treatment of spikeletsChoose a healthy spike bud of Michelia purpurogenum, turn it over, and use a knife to gently make a diagonal cut about one centimeter away. Remove one-third of the wood, preferably keeping the length of the oblique section the same as the length inserted into the substrate. Then use a knife to cut a small bevel on the back of the oblique section and remove a little bit of the wood. 2. Treatment of rootstockRemove the part of the rootstock that is more than 8 cm away from the ground. The bark of the rootstock should be relatively smooth and thick. Slowly shave off a little bit of the rootstock's cross section and insert it straight into the woody part. 3. Treatment of scionInsert the scion into the cut left after processing the rootstock in the previous step. Attention must be paid to this step: the cambium of the oblique section of the scion and the cambium of the rootstock cut must fit tightly together, so as to ensure the success of the grafting. After grafting the scion, tie it with a thin tape and prevent rain from dripping on it for the next week. And flower lovers should always pay attention that some new buds will grow on the rootstock trunk. If you see them, you must remove them immediately, otherwise it will affect the development of purple Michelia. |
