Papaya planting results after several years

Papaya is a common fruit. The plant is drought-resistant but not shade-resistant. It prefers a warm, semi-dry and semi-humid growing environment. It is generally planted in spring from April to May. The main producing areas are Jiangsu, Shandong, Anhui, Zhejiang, Henan and other places.

Papaya will not bear fruit until 3-4 years after planting, and will enter the peak fruit-bearing period after 4 years. Each tree can live for hundreds of years, and the fruit is ripe and available on the market from August to October every year.

Reasons why papaya does not bear fruit

Papaya can only form fruit after it blooms and the pistil is fertilized by the pollen from the stamens. However, in some papayas, only the stamens develop healthily, while the pistils have degenerated. Therefore, the tree can only provide pollen but cannot bear fruit.

Papaya planting technology and key points

1. Sowing

Papaya seeds are relatively small and are generally propagated by broadcasting. Mix the seeds and fine sand evenly and then sprinkle them on the seedbed. The temperature should be above 20℃ during sowing.

2. Post-maintenance

After papaya is planted, when the plant grows two true leaves, it is necessary to apply a thin layer of fertilizer. When it has five true leaves, thinning out is necessary.
