When to sow fennel

When to sow fennel

The right time to sow fennel

Fennel is an annual herb that mainly reproduces through seeds. It will generally bloom one month after sowing and mature and be harvested after another month.

Fennel can be planted in spring and autumn, and it is best planted in mid-to-late August. At this time, the temperature is high and the precipitation is abundant. After the seeds germinate, the seedlings can quickly grow into mature plants and will mature in about two months. The growth efficiency is very high and suitable for sowing.

Fennel sowing method

1. Prepare the soil

Fennel is suitable for growing in relatively dry soil. When preparing the soil, you can use sandy soil combined with peat soil to increase the soil's hydrophobicity and make the plant drier.

2. Sowing and watering

Next, bury the fennel seeds in the soil, add a small amount of water, and keep the soil moist to help the seeds germinate as quickly as possible. Wait for the seedlings to grow and the survival rate will be very high.

Fennel planting tips and techniques

1. Lighting

Fennel is a plant suitable for long-day sunlight, requiring about ten hours of sunlight a day. However, if it is occasionally exposed to direct sunlight during the seedling period, it needs to be shaded in time to prevent the plant from being burned.

2. Moisture

Fennel does not need too much water during its growth process, especially when the tender shoots are just beginning to sprout. You should reduce the amount of watering to avoid waterlogging in the soil, which will make it difficult for the young roots to breathe and cause root rot.
