When to sow buckwheat? Sowing time and method

Buckwheat sowing time

Buckwheat is an annual herb of the Polygonaceae family and the genus Fagopyrum. This crop is mostly propagated by sowing. It usually germinates in about 4-5 days after planting, and the entire growth cycle is about 9 months.

Buckwheat is generally planted in late spring and early summer, and the best time is mid-to-late May, when the temperature is stable and more conducive to seed germination.

Buckwheat sowing method

1. Land preparation

Buckwheat does not have high requirements for soil and can be planted in barren land and newly reclaimed land. However, if you want high yields of buckwheat, it is best to choose soil with sufficient nutrients, strong water retention and rich organic matter.

2. Planting

Scientifically planting buckwheat should use row sowing with a sowing width of 13-17 cm. This sowing method produces even seed placement and neat germination, making it very suitable for sowing during severe spring droughts.

Buckwheat planting tips and techniques

1. After sowing buckwheat, active seedling protection measures need to be taken. If the weather is too dry, seedling protection measures are needed to make the soil layer loose on top and solid on the bottom, which is more conducive to seed germination.

2. Buckwheat is a typical dryland farming product. It does not require too much water during maintenance. It can be planted on dry slopes and its growth depends on natural precipitation.
