How to prune grapevines after flowering

Pruning grapevines after flowering

1. Pinching: There are many varieties of grapes. For some grape varieties with a higher probability of fruit setting, pinching can be done 3 days after flowering. The pinched vines are generally about 10 cm long.

2. Thinning the inflorescences: In order to properly handle the inflorescences, it is necessary to remove the excessive inflorescences and also remove some underdeveloped inflorescences. This can reduce the consumption of nutrients, enable the remaining inflorescences to obtain sufficient nutrition, and also improve the quality of the grape bunches. Generally speaking, one inflorescence is left on each fruiting branch and the others can be picked off.

3. Thinning : About a week after the grapes bloom and fall, the grapes have grown to the size of mung beans. At this time, thinning can be carried out to remove some of the weaker grapes to make the remaining grape bunches more balanced.

Grapevine pruning and flowering

Pruning and flowering: After the vine sprouts, it needs to be pruned. In the week before flowering, in order to prevent the flowers and fruits from falling, it is necessary to pinch the new shoots. Usually, pay attention to whether there are dead branches or diseased branches, and deal with them in time once they are found.

Reasons for not flowering: The grape vines may have consumed a lot of nutrients due to last year's high yield, thus affecting the differentiation of flower buds; or the grape vines may have too many branches and used a large amount of ethephon-based pigments, resulting in a lack of nutrition for the flower buds and no flowering.

Method to achieve more flowers: When winter buds sprout in spring, leave ten leaves above the new shoots for pinching, thereby inhibiting the growth of the main shoots, while retaining the two summer buds at the top.

How to care for grapevines after flowering

1. Appropriate top dressing: During the flowering period of grapes, you must pay attention to top dressing. Apply the grapes with decomposed organic fertilizer and spray boric acid or borax water once before they bloom. This can supplement nutrients well and increase the fruit setting rate of grapes.

2. Maintain the temperature: Pay attention to controlling the temperature and humidity. It needs to be kept at around 28°C during the day and around 16-18°C at night.

3. Control watering: After flowering, be sure to control watering to avoid fruit drop caused by excessive water.

4. Pest and disease control: Take effective measures to prevent and control pests and diseases.
