Best time to plant freesia

The planting time of freesia needs to be determined according to the region and environmental temperature. Generally, it is best to plant it in October in autumn, because the temperature is in line with its growth habits, so the survival rate is high. Freesia is usually planted in autumn and raised for about 5 months. If it is properly maintained, it will bloom in the spring of the following year.

How to plant freesia

Bulb selection: Freesia is a bulbous flower. If you have already planted freesia in pots, you can dig out some of the daughter bulbs growing next to the mother bulb every summer, seal them for storage, and sow them in the fall. Of course, you can also buy freesia bulbs. If they are full and shiny, it means they have been stored well; if they look dark and feel soft when pinched, it is likely that the bulb has rotted. If you choose full bulbs, the freesia will germinate faster.

Preparation of potting soil; There are no requirements for flower pots for planting freesia, and plastic or ceramic pots are enough for ordinary potting. As for the soil, they are very important and affect the germination and rooting of freesia. We can choose some granular river sand and vermiculite. These two granular soils have strong water absorption and moisture retention, which can keep the soil moist for a long time, and germination and rooting will be fast. Then we can use some fertile peat soil to promote the growth of freesia: mix in a ratio of 2:3, then expose to the sun for sterilization, and then pour it into the flower pot for planting.

Cultivation method; peel off the brown skin on the outside of the bulb, it is best to plant 2 to 3 bulbs of different colors in each flower pot, after digging the pit, the small end is facing up, then plant, then cover the soil, water along the edge of the pot, and then bring it to a cool and ventilated place, waiting for the freesia to germinate. During this period, the soil should be kept moist, and the freesia will germinate in about 2 weeks. After the small buds grow for a few days, it can receive some light and normal maintenance. Freesia will take root in winter. In April of the second year, the branches and leaves of the freesia will be lush, and the most beautiful flowers will bloom.

Freesia planting and management precautions

Inappropriate environment or improper methods during maintenance and management can easily cause diseases, the most common of which are mosaic disease and ball rot. When found, drugs should be sprayed immediately for control. In addition, the bulbs should be disinfected when repotting every year.
