How to care for plants in winter

Are plants afraid of frost?

Some plants are afraid of freezing, while others are not. Due to different plant species, the temperature requirements are also very different. The growth temperature of flowers originating from tropical regions is generally around 18°C, the growth temperature of flowers originating from temperate regions is generally around 10°C, and the growth temperature of flowers originating from subtropical regions is generally 15~16°C.

How to care for plants in winter

1. Soil: During the winter, do not change the soil of the plants, but you can loosen the soil to increase air permeability.

2. Light: Most plants are best given a certain amount of scattered light in winter to promote the differentiation of flower buds next year and better help them overwinter.

3. Watering: Some plants enter a dormant period in winter, so it is best not to water them. However, for plants that enter a growing period in winter, it is best to provide sufficient water supply to meet normal growth.

4. Temperature : The temperature is low in winter and plants are easily frozen. The temperature must be controlled frequently. When the temperature is below 5°C, the plants need to be moved indoors. It is best to place the plants in a sunny room, where the temperature is generally two or three degrees higher than other rooms.

5. Ventilation: Plants are usually placed indoors in winter, and windows need to be opened for ventilation at noon every day. At this time, the outside temperature is high, and the temperature difference between indoor and outdoor is small, so the plants will not be frozen.

6. Sunbathing : Potted plants need sunbathing in winter, but it is important to distinguish whether they need scattered light or direct light. Giving the plants appropriate light can help them survive the winter smoothly.

Precautions for plant cultivation in winter

1. Suitable temperature : The temperature in the north is low in winter. For flowers and plants that like warmth, provide an appropriate temperature above 10°C, do a good job of insulation and cold prevention, and avoid the threat of low temperature frost damage to the flowers.

2. Water in small amounts: Plants grow slowly in winter, and most of them will enter a dormant period, and their demand for water will be greatly reduced. At this time, you should pay attention to reducing watering and keeping the soil dry.

3. When caring for plants indoors in winter, you must understand the growth characteristics of the plants, take different measures as needed, keep them warm in time, pay attention to observation, place them on the balcony in the sun, give them enough light, but be careful not to let the leaves touch the glass.

4. In winter, plants in the north need to be provided with a temperature above 10°C, water in small amounts to keep the soil dry, and place the plants in a bright place sheltered from the wind to receive sufficient light. Stop fertilizing, prune branches and leaves before winter, ventilate regularly, and do a good job of disease and pest control.
