Sunflower seeds are achenes, and the seeds are obtained after the shell is removed. Sunflower seeds are very easy to germinate. Just use a soft and breathable substrate for sowing, and place it in a warm environment between 18-25℃, and water it in time. It only takes 5-7 days for it to germinate. It is usually sown in spring from March to April every year.

Sunflower seeds germinate relatively quickly. After sowing the seeds, cover them with a shallow layer of soil, 1 to 2 centimeters. Keep the temperature above 15°C and they will germinate in two weeks.

How to germinate sunflower seeds

Sunflower seeds need to be soaked in warm water at 25-30 degrees for 15-16 hours, or soaked in warm water at 50 degrees for 3-4 hours, then taken out and spread out, and piled up indoors at 15-20 degrees. After about 24 hours, part of the seed coat will open and sprouts will appear, and then they can be sown.

The sowing time of sunflower seeds depends on the frost-free period of the planting site. When the soil temperature at 5 cm is stable at 8-10 degrees, it is suitable for sowing. Use hole sowing, row sowing or precision seeder for spot sowing. It is suitable for planting in loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil, covered with 7 cm of soil. If planted in heavy clay soil, cover with 3-4 cm of soil.

The planting density should be determined according to the variety, soil, climate, fertilization, irrigation and other conditions. Generally, single row ridges are used with a row spacing of 65-70 cm and a plant spacing of 40 cm. About 2,500 seedlings are maintained per acre. In the later stage, the soil needs to be kept slightly moist.
