How to make ginkgo nut germinate quickly

Ginkgo bud germination environment

Ginkgo nuts are the seeds of ginkgo. Ginkgo nuts usually mature in October. We can pick them under the ginkgo tree, or we can buy a few nuts. The nuts should be as fresh as possible.

Ginkgo nut germination process

Soak the processed ginkgo seeds in clean water for about 24 hours, then plant the soaked seeds in the soil, with the big head with a small mouth exposed outside. Spray some water every day to keep it slightly moist, and small buds will emerge from the seeds in about twenty days.

Direct planting of ginkgo nut

After taking out the ginkgo seeds, you need to remove the surface flesh and wash it, leaving the core. Because the shell of the core is relatively hard, it is difficult to germinate if planted directly, so we need to use pliers to clip a small hole in the big end of the seed. Be careful when handling it so as not to damage the seed.

Ginkgo fruit sprouts in the soil

Ginkgo nuts will sprout 20 days after planting and can be planted. Prepare the planting container and potting soil. It is best to choose vermiculite garden soil. Insert the nut into the potting soil with the sprout facing down, then water it thoroughly and place it in an environment with scattered light and good ventilation.

Ginkgo nut germination method

When planting in autumn, you need to scrub off the skin of the ginkgo seeds, then dry the seeds with the skin before planting. When planting in spring, you need to soak the seeds in warm water at a temperature between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius for about 2 to 3 days, then take them out and place them in the sand for germination.

Ginkgo nut germination planting

Ginkgo seeds can be planted in spring from March to April, or in autumn from October to November, but it is best to plant them in spring. Choose intact and plump seeds from eighty-year-old ginkgo trees. First peel the seeds and soak them in water for 2 to 3 days. Choose sandy soil that is breathable, well-drained and rich in nutrients as the substrate.
