Where is it suitable to grow cherries?

Where is it suitable to grow cherries?

Cherry growing area

Cherries generally grow in a warm and humid environment, but they are not cold-resistant and cannot survive the overly cold winters in the north. They are suitable for growing in the North China Plain or the Northwest region.

Cherries are suitable for growing in an environment with moderate rainfall conditions. They are neither drought-resistant nor water-resistant. The amount of water in the soil must be controlled. Cherries can be grown in both the south and the north. The cherries in Yantai, Shandong, my country are quite famous and are also the main planting area. More than ten varieties of cherries are cultivated there and it is known as the hometown of cherries in my country.

Cherry planting conditions

Cherries are suitable for growing in a warm environment. They are distributed in temperate monsoon regions such as Anhui, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Hebei. The average temperature should be maintained at around 20 degrees Celsius. The precipitation should not be too much or too little. If planted in the southern region, attention should be paid to drainage to avoid excessive water accumulation in the soil. If planted in the north, soil moisture needs to be guaranteed to avoid drought.

Key points for cherry planting and management

1. Light: Cherries have a relatively high demand for light. If the light is sufficient and good, the fruit will grow fuller and stronger, and the color will be brighter red.

2. Water: When planting cherries, try to choose areas close to rivers. In this way, if drought occurs, river water can be drawn for irrigation to meet the cherry's water needs in time.

3. Soil: Cherries are suitable for growing in places with deeper soil layers. Sandy soil with larger particles and good hydrophobicity and air permeability is the most suitable. If the soil viscosity is too high, it may cause difficulty in root breathing and soil waterlogging may easily occur.
