Cultivation methods and precautions of asparagus fern

Cultivation methods and precautions of asparagus fern

1. Temperature and environment

The most suitable growth temperature for asparagus fern is around 20℃. The temperature should be kept above 10℃ in winter. If the temperature is too low, frost damage may occur. When the weather is too cold in winter, you can cover the outside of the potted plants with a layer of plastic film to keep them warm.

In addition, the higher the air humidity, the better. When the weather is hot, often sprinkle water on the ground and leaves around the plants to increase the air humidity.

2. Soil

The soil should be loose and fertile.

Asparagus fern has relatively high requirements for soil drainage and air permeability. It is best to choose loose soil with good drainage, such as humus soil rich in humus, peat soil, etc. Adding a little organic fertilizer to the soil as base fertilizer is beneficial to the growth of the plants.

3. Lighting

Asparagus fern prefers a semi-shaded environment and is best placed in a room with diffused light. Except for winter, it should not be placed in direct sunlight in other seasons, especially in summer, because the sunlight is more toxic and will burn the branches and leaves. Generally speaking, if it is to be placed in the sun in spring, summer and autumn, it should be blocked by 60%.

4. Watering

Asparagus fern has fleshy roots, so watering is necessary with caution. Each time you water, you must water thoroughly, not halfway, otherwise the roots will not absorb water and die. The amount of watering should not be too much or too little, it should be controlled reasonably. When the soil in the pot is slightly dry, water it in time. Water thoroughly when the soil is dry.

The weather is cold in winter and water evaporates slowly, so the amount of watering should be reduced to avoid frostbite of the roots and rhizomes. If the indoor temperature is too dry, you should spray water on the leaves in time to increase the air humidity.

5. Fertilization

During the growing season, you can apply fertilizer every half a month, and you can apply liquid fertilizer together with watering. However, fertilization should be stopped during the dormant period with high temperatures in summer and low temperatures in winter.

The plant needs sufficient nutrients to grow when it is young, but after the plant is established, the amount of fertilizer should be reduced to prevent the plant from growing too tall and affecting the beauty of the plant shape.

6. Notes

In the north, asparagus fern cannot be grown outdoors in winter and should be moved indoors in time to provide a warm growing environment.

Asparagus fern should not be watered too frequently, but can be kept moist by spraying water on the leaves. In summer, spray water 1-2 times a day; in winter, spray water once every 3-4 days.

Do not water directly with tap water. It should be left to air for 1-2 days in advance to release the chlorine in the water and ensure that the water temperature is not too cold.

Apply thin fertilizer once a week in spring and autumn, and it is best to use compound flower fertilizer. Do not apply raw fertilizer. If you want to use domestic fertilizer, you can use it after it is fully fermented.

Asparagus fern does not like smoke and dust. If you use a coal stove for heating in winter, you need to ensure proper ventilation.

Asparagus fern should be pruned in time. Too dense branches will affect ventilation and reduce the ornamental value. If there are too many evil roots, the pots should be divided in time.
