How to save seeds for asparagus? Seed treatment and planting methods

How to save asparagus seeds

Asparagus has seeds, which are formed after the cultivated asparagus seedlings grow. Before sowing asparagus, choose a sunny day to place the seeds on a cloth bag and expose them to the sun for 2-3 days, or soak the seeds in warm water at 55 degrees for 20 minutes. This has a good sterilization effect and can also increase the germination rate and germination potential of the seeds.

If asparagus seeds are stored well, they can last for 3 to 5 years. Asparagus can keep its own seeds by digging them out manually and collecting them.

Asparagus Seed Saving

If asparagus seeds are stored in a dry place, they can be kept for 3-5 years. If they are not sealed and the environment is humid, the germination rate of the seeds will be lost quickly.

How to Plant Asparagus Seeds

Asparagus is suitable for sowing in spring. Due to different regions, in the warmer southern region, you can choose autumn, while in the cold northern region, you can choose spring.

The outer skin of asparagus seeds is hard, and it is difficult for them to absorb water if sown directly. The best way is to soak them in 30-degree warm water for 2 days to soften the seed skin before sowing.

Asparagus seeds are suitable for planting in loose, fertile, well-drained soil. Renovate the soil in advance, then sow the soaked seeds evenly into the soil, cover them with a thin layer of soil, and water them once. When sowing in spring when the temperature is lower, you can cover them with a layer of plastic film to increase the soil temperature and speed up germination.
