Burdock Growing Conditions

Burdock is a light-loving plant that prefers an environment with plenty of sunlight. Burdock is a plant that requires a lot of water. From sowing to seedling growth, the soil needs to be kept moist. It also requires relatively moist soil conditions in the middle and late stages of growth. However, it is not tolerant to waterlogging. If the soil is too moist, the taproot will rot.

When cultivating burdock as a vegetable, it is best to choose soil that is deep, loose, fertile, well-drained, rich in organic matter, and has a pH value of 6.5-7.5. If the soil for planting is not suitable, it will affect the yield. It likes a warm environment and is relatively cold-resistant.

Burdock Growing Climate

Burdock likes warm and humid environment. It is both heat-resistant and relatively cold-resistant. The suitable temperature for seed germination is 20-25 degrees, and the suitable growth temperature is between 20-25 degrees. The above-ground part has weak cold resistance, below 3 degrees Celsius. The taproot has strong cold resistance and can withstand temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius. The above-ground part withers in winter and survives the winter with the taproot, and sprouts and grows in the following spring.

Burdock Planting Area

Choose sunny terrain, deep soil, fertile soil, good drainage loam or sandy loam for cultivating burdock. Avoid continuous cropping. The previous crop should be cereals, rapeseed, broad beans and other crops. It is distributed in Taiwan, Shandong, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Henan, Hubei, Anhui, Zhejiang and other places in China.

Benefits of Burdock Planting

The planting time of burdock is not fixed, but it is generally sown around January or May. The current yield per mu in my country is very unstable. Some yields are only 4,000 jin per mu, while others reach 6,000 jin. The general investment is around 2,000 yuan per mu.

Normally according to the market price, the income per mu is 8,000 yuan. If it is roughly processed, it can reach about 10,000 yuan, and the net profit will be around 6,000 yuan. Relatively speaking, it is a crop with relatively high economic benefits.
