High-yield cultivation technology of onion

High-yield cultivation technology of onion

Onion is a vegetable that is easy to grow in high yield. The key to improving the efficiency of onion cultivation is to promote its growth through careful management to achieve a higher yield. Many of my friends are not good at growing onions because they don’t know the method. Here we will learn an article about high-yield onion cultivation techniques.

1. Choose the right soil

Onions can adapt to a variety of soil types, but the most suitable soil is sandy soil with a pH value between 7-8, loose, breathable and fertile. Such soil helps onions grow better, produce larger onions and higher yields.

2. Suitable temperature environment

Onions prefer cool climates and do not like high temperatures. Onions have different temperature requirements at different growth stages. The seeds will germinate quickly at 10-12 degrees after sowing. The most suitable temperature in the seedling stage is 12-20 degrees. The most suitable temperature in the vigorous growth period of stems and leaves is 18-20 degrees. The most suitable temperature in the underground bulb expansion period is 20-26 degrees. Below 15 degrees or above 30 degrees, the growth of onions will be affected.

3. Adequate lighting

Onions require a lot of sunlight and are long-day crops. Insufficient light will cause onions to grow poorly, with stems and leaves growing vigorously but failing to form large underground bulbs. During the underground bulb expansion period, the daily lighting time should not be less than 10-12 hours. If the sunshine time exceeds 14 hours, it will be more conducive to the expansion of the bulb.

4. Reasonable watering and timely water control

There are three stages where water cannot be lacking: the germination and emergence stage after sowing, the vigorous growth period of the seedlings, and the rapid expansion period of underground onions . There are three stages where water control is required: After the seedlings are transplanted and planted, water should be controlled appropriately to promote the development of the root system. When underground onions are just formed, control the water to promote rapid expansion of underground garlic. 7-10 days before harvest, control or stop watering to improve yield and quality. During other growth stages, just keep the soil moisture at 60-70%.

5. Scientific fertilization

The nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium requirement ratio during the seedling stage is 8:1:9, with nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer being the main ones. During the vigorous growth period of stems and leaves, the nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium requirement ratio is 5.5:1:4.7, with nitrogen fertilizer as the main fertilizer and phosphorus fertilizer as an appropriate supplement. The nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium requirements during the underground bulb expansion period are 4:1:2.6, with nitrogen fertilizer slightly more than potassium fertilizer. The demand for nitrogen fertilizer increases sharply during the spring greening period, with the demand ratio being 7:1:3, and the focus should be on applying high-nitrogen, medium-potassium, and low-phosphorus fertilizers . The demand for potassium fertilizer increases during the bolting and bud formation period and the flowering and seed setting period, with the demand ratios of 5:1:4.7 and 4.7:1:3.5. Increase the application of potassium fertilizer and appropriately control nitrogen fertilizer.

In general, you need to master these key points when planting onions, and everyone needs to grasp the water and fertilizer management, as well as the basic growth conditions of onions.
