Pasture planting conditions Natural growth climate conditions

Introduction to forage

Forage grass is grass or other herbaceous plants used to feed livestock. It has vigorous growth and can be harvested many times a year, making it the first choice for feeding livestock. It is also known as lentil, alfalfa, and wild alfalfa. Forage grass varieties include: rye varieties, corn forage, king bamboo grass, sweet elephant grass, etc.

Pasture planting conditions

Humid, semi-humid subtropical and temperate climates are most suitable for forage growth. Low precipitation is not suitable for forage growth. In addition, a cold and humid environment is also not suitable for forage growth.

Forage Planting Climate

The suitable growth temperature for forage grass is between 23-35 degrees. The seedling stage is not resistant to low temperatures. The sowing period is generally in spring. The characteristics of the temperate continental climate are cold winters and hot summers. The temperature varies greatly throughout the year and the four seasons are distinct. The temperature in winter is very low and very cold, while the summer is very hot, with high temperatures and much rain. However, the climate in these two seasons is not extreme and is suitable for forage grass growth.

Pasture planting area

The climate is mild and humid, with abundant temperate marine water resources, numerous rivers, fertile soil, high vegetation coverage, small annual temperature difference, weak light, and forage grass is widely grown in Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning provinces, and the eastern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Pasture planting time

Forage grass is usually planted in spring from March to April, preferably during the Qingming Festival, because the weather begins to gradually become warmer at this time, the temperature is slowly rising, and the length of day and night is basically the same, which is beneficial to the growth of forage grass.

Forage Planting Benefits

Before planting forage grass, it is necessary to choose a good variety. While considering high yield, give priority to varieties with strong regeneration ability and high density, such as ryegrass, orchard grass, clover, fescue, oxtail grass, etc. Because pigs have a large appetite, they require feed with less cellulose and more carbohydrates and protein. It is best for pig farmers to plant grain amaranth, fodder grass, and Rumex.
