How long is the growing cycle of wheat?

Introduction to wheat growth

Wheat has a wide adaptability and is planted in both the north and the south. The northern winter wheat areas are concentrated in Henan, Hebei, Shandong, Shaanxi, Shanxi and other provinces, while the southern winter wheat areas are concentrated in Jiangsu, Sichuan, Anhui and Hubei provinces. The main spring wheat producing provinces are Heilongjiang, Xinjiang, Gansu and Inner Mongolia.

Wheat growth cycle

Wheat prefers deep, well-drained, fertile soil and does not like sandy soil or heavy clay. It is a long-day crop and prefers a sunny environment. It needs 8-12 hours of sunshine a day. If the sunshine conditions are insufficient, its yield will decrease.

Winter wheat is generally sown around September and October, and matures and is harvested in late June to early July of the following year. Spring wheat is generally sown from south to north in April and May, and matures and is harvested in July and August. In the northernmost Greater Khingan Range area, earlier varieties mature in mid-August, and later varieties mature in early September.

Wheat growth rate

The growth process of wheat mainly goes through several stages: sowing period, emergence period, tillering period, overwintering period, greening period, rising period, jointing period, booting period, heading period, flowering period and maturity period, and the growth rate is slow.

Wheat growth cycle management

The wheat yield per mu is generally around 800 to 1000 jin.

Temperature management: The average daily temperature of wheat varieties planted in winter needs to be 16-18℃, and that of semi-winter types needs to be 14-16℃. The planting time is affected by temperature as well as geographical latitude and altitude. That is, the higher the latitude and altitude, the lower the temperature, and the earlier the sowing period can be.

Fertilization management: Base fertilizer can be applied when wheat is planted, and topdressing can be applied appropriately during the growth period. The amount does not need to be too much, once a week is enough. In addition to the usual fertilizers, you can also add appropriate amount of fertilizer on the leaves to increase yield.
