What soil is best for planting peonies?

1. Soil quality for planting

If it is planted outdoors, plant it in an area with sunlight and no stagnant water. You can use common cultivation soil, soil with a moderate pH or slightly alkaline soil. It is suitable for relatively breathable and fertile soil, which should be deep enough and able to drain water.

2. Potting soil

If it is planted in a pot, the bottom of the pot should be covered with pebbles, which should be 3 to 5 cm thick to facilitate the drainage of excess water. The soil in the pot is best made of loess mixed with some cake fertilizer, or a mixture of animal manure, ordinary garden soil and coarse sand.

3. Notes

Before planting, be sure to let the roots stretch out and not let them curl. After planting, press the soil tightly with your hands so that the roots can be in close contact with the soil, which will make it easier for it to survive.

3. Soil fertilization

1. After potting, water it thoroughly and place it in a cool place to let it recover slowly. When managed normally, you can place it in a warm and bright place, and make sure it gets plenty of sunlight.

2. Do not fertilize the newly potted flowers immediately, especially do not use highly concentrated fertilizers, otherwise the fleshy roots will become moldy.

3. After half a year, you can slowly add some animal manure or other thin fertilizers to the newly planted flowers. During its growth period, you should frequently loosen the soil and apply compound fertilizer every 15 days or so.

4. After planting for one or two years, it will bloom every year. It usually blooms in April. You can add liquid fertilizer once or twice before it blooms. You can add liquid fertilizer once or twice half a month after the flowers grow out. In hot summer weather, you can add dry fertilizer to help its flower buds germinate.
