Introduction to Perilla Growth

Perilla has strong adaptability and is mainly distributed in countries such as India, Myanmar, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Indonesia and Russia. There are wild and cultivated species in North my country, Central China, South China, Southwest China and Taiwan Province.

Perilla growth cycle

Perilla likes to grow in a moist and warm environment. The soil should be well-drained, fertile, loose sandy loam. It grows poorly on clay soil and barren, dry sandy soil. Its flowering period is from August to November, and its fruiting period is from August to December.

Growth rate of Perilla

The annual growth period of perilla can be divided into four stages: seedling stage, branch growth peak period, flowering period and fruiting period. Its growth time is very short, and the whole plant can usually be harvested two and a half months after planting.

Perilla growth cycle management

Perilla seeds are very small, and their yield is similar to that of sesame, about 150-200 kilograms per acre. The yield can be increased if well maintained.

Temperature management : Perilla seeds can only germinate when the ground temperature is above 5℃. Its suitable germination temperature is between 18-23℃. It can tolerate low temperatures of 1-2℃ during the seedling stage, and the suitable temperature during the flowering period is 22-28℃.

Fertilization management : Perilla seedlings need topdressing when they are 30 cm tall. Dig furrows between the rows in the planting field and apply an appropriate amount of human manure or ammonium sulfate, superphosphate, loosen the soil and bury the fertilizer. The second fertilization is before closing the ridges. The fertilization method is the same as above, but be careful not to touch the leaves this time.
