Can Sophora japonica be potted?

Sophora japonica trees can be planted in pots. Many people now grow them at home. They are very ornamental with later pruning. Of course, if there is space at home, you can consider planting them in the ground, because the space is larger than that of potted plants and the plants will grow better.

You can choose a 20*25 flowerpot for potted locust trees. After the locust tree has grown for 1-2 years, you can transplant it to a larger flowerpot. If it is planted from seeds, it will not bloom until 3 years later. If it is propagated by cuttings, it will bloom in 2 years.

Sophora japonica potted cultivation method

1. Soil preparation

Sophora japonica has strong vitality and is not very demanding on soil. When cultivating, fill the pot with loose nutritious soil with a deep soil layer and good drainage. It can be made by mixing garden soil, humus soil, fine sand and other materials.

2. Pruning

Every year after the growth stops in spring and before the second growing season arrives, cut off the curved part at the top. After new branches sprout, choose a vertical branch as the new main trunk.

3. Watering

It is best to keep the bonsai in moist conditions. Water the locust tree frequently during the peak growth period. During the high temperature period in summer, spray water mist on the leaves to increase the humidity.

4. Fertilization

When growing potted locust trees, thin fertilizers should be used as the main fertilizer. It is forbidden to use concentrated fertilizers, raw fertilizers and excessive fertilizers. No matter what kind of fertilizer, it must be diluted with water before use to avoid burning the roots and rhizomes.

5. Light and temperature conditions

Potted Sophora japonica likes to grow in a warm environment, around 20℃ is more suitable. After winter, it should be moved indoors as soon as possible. The growth ability of the plant will decrease significantly if the temperature is below 15℃, and it will suffer frost damage if the temperature is below 5℃.
