Introduction to Cotton Growth

Cotton is suitable for planting in loose, deep, well-drained soil, and prefers warm, well-lit areas. In my country, it is mainly planted in the Jianghuai Plain, Jianghan Plain, southern Xinjiang cotton area, North China Plain, northwest Shandong, northern Henan Plain, and the coastal plains along the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

Cotton growth cycle

During its growth period, cotton likes plenty of sunlight. As long as the conditions are suitable, it can grow indefinitely. After growing 2-3 true leaves, vegetative growth and reproductive growth go hand in hand. Its boll formation has a strong ability to adjust and compensate for time and space. It has a well-developed root system, strong water absorption capacity, and is drought-resistant and salt-alkali-tolerant.

The growing cycle of cotton is very long, and the cycle varies for different varieties. Usually, the growth cycle of early-maturing varieties is about 130 days, and that of mid-maturing varieties is about 140 days.

Cotton growth rate

The growth of cotton goes through the seedling stage, seedling stage, bud stage, fruiting stage and boll stage. It takes about 7-15 days for the seeds to germinate, which is called the seedling stage. When the first flower grows, it is called the bud stage. After the flower withers and fruits are formed, it is the fruiting stage. After the fruit cracks and cotton wool is exposed, it is the boll stage.

It takes about 200 days for cotton to grow, and the growing period of cotton is about 120 days.

Cotton growth cycle management

The outdoor per-acre yield of cotton is related to the planting area, variety, natural climate and planting level. Generally, low-yield fields are around 200 kilograms, medium-yield fields are around 250 kilograms, and high-yield fields can reach 400 kilograms or more.

Temperature management: Cotton likes a warm environment. The seeds need to be above 10 degrees to germinate. The suitable ambient temperature is between 28 and 30 degrees, and it can tolerate a high temperature environment of 45 degrees.

Fertilization management: Before planting cotton, base fertilizer needs to be applied, mainly decomposed organic fertilizer, a combination of organic and inorganic fertilizers. Fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium can be applied later.
