Cutting propagation methods and precautions for wintersweet

How to reproduce wintersweet

There are four main methods of propagation of wintersweet: sowing, division, cutting and grafting. Among them, the most commonly used method is sowing, and cutting propagation is also more suitable, with a high survival rate.

Cutting propagation method of wintersweet

It is generally more appropriate to propagate winter plums by cuttings in winter, with December being the best time, because this is when the plants grow more vigorously and the survival rate of cuttings will be higher. The specific cutting propagation method is as follows:

1. Branch selection

The branches for wintersweet cuttings must be selected carefully. You can choose a 1-3 year old branch from the root, tear it off from the root, and then trim it. Just trim the branch to about 20 cm in length.

2. Cutting process

If conditions permit, you can dip a little rooting powder before cuttings, first use a small wooden stick to make holes in the wet sand, then put the cuttings in and bury them firmly, and after all the cuttings are inserted, water them thoroughly at once.

Precautions for cuttings of wintersweet

1. When propagating wintersweets by cuttings, you need to pay attention to making sure the incision is flat, the tools used to cut the branches must be sharp, and they must be disinfected in advance. Before cutting wintersweets from different plants, they must be disinfected to avoid cross infection.

2. The maintenance environment after propagation of wintersweet by cuttings needs to be kept warm and slightly moist, and the potting soil needs to be kept slightly moist to avoid the soil being too dry, so as to ensure the success rate of cuttings.
