Introduction to Saffron

Saffron has very high medicinal value. It is the upper part of the saffron style and stigma. The stigma of the flower can be harvested in September and October, dried, sealed and stored in a cool and dry place. It has the effect of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis, relieving depression and relieving knots.

Saffron's other names include crocus and western saffron. The main varieties are spring crocus, yellow crocus, early crocus and golden crocus.

Saffron Growing Conditions

Saffron likes mild, humid and cool environment during its growth process. It is afraid of heat, is relatively cold-resistant and avoids waterlogging. Saffron is a short-day plant. The suitable temperature for growth is about 15 degrees, and the suitable temperature for flowering is 16-20 degrees.

Saffron is best planted in fertile, loose, well-drained sandy loam. It was originally distributed in Persia, Iran and the Mediterranean region, and was later introduced to Tibet, my country. Due to its limited planting area, the yield is very small and can only be eaten by a few people. In terms of medicinal efficacy, there is not much difference in the medicinal effects of saffron cultivated in various parts of China.

Saffron Planting Time

In the northern regions, saffron is suitable for sowing in late March after thawing, and no later than early April. In the south, it is suitable for sowing in early October, neither too early nor too late.

Benefits of Saffron Planting

After saffron is planted, its stamens and bulbs are mainly harvested, which have economic value. The stamens can be dried, and the market price is more than 10,000 yuan per catty. If it is maintained for two years, the income per acre is about 100,000 yuan. Adding the income from the stamens, the income per acre is about 150,000 yuan.
