What fertilizer is good for growing melons?

Melon fertilizer

The ultimate goal of melons is to have strong root systems, thick stems, thick leaves, many flowers, large fruits, and beautiful fruits. When fertilizing, use more fertilizers with low nitrogen content and high phosphorus and potassium content. It is best to use comprehensive water-soluble fertilizers rich in medium and trace elements (especially rich in calcium, magnesium, zinc, and boron).

Melon planting fertilizer

The base fertilizer used when planting melons can be high-potassium compound fertilizer (potassium sulfate type), organic fertilizer, and a small amount of medium and trace element fertilizer.

Topdressing for melon planting

During the melon planting period, appropriate topdressing is required. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate, amino acid or humic acid water-soluble fertilizers, high-potassium water-soluble fertilizers can be used.

Fertilizer for melon growing period

During the melon growing period, use pure potassium sulfate compound fertilizer with a high potassium content of 15-20%. The melons produced will be sweeter and the melon vines will not easily get sick.

Fertilizer for fruiting season

During the fruit-bearing period, it is necessary to apply melon fertilizer, 20-30 kg of potassium sulfate and 15-20 kg of urea per mu, which can effectively increase the yield and improve its quality.

The correct way to fertilize melon

Apply sufficient base fertilizer: When planting melons, you need to apply sufficient base fertilizer, and ensure that it is well-rotted organic fertilizer, diammonium phosphate, potassium sulfate or three-element compound fertilizer.

Reasonable topdressing: During the growth period of melon, the demand for fertilizer is high. 1000 kg/mu of decomposed human manure or 10 kg/mu of triple compound fertilizer (or urea) can be applied per mu. At the same time, urea and potassium dihydrogen phosphate can be used as foliar topdressing 2-3 times.

Things to note when applying fertilizer to melon

When planting melon crops, apply a balanced compound fertilizer of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in the early growth stage, and supplement with high-phosphorus and high-potassium compound fertilizers in the early flowering stage. Phosphorus fertilizer can promote more flowering, and potassium fertilizer can promote more melons. Pay attention to the principle of frequent application of thin fertilizers, and the concentration should not be too high.
