What fertilizer is good for growing basil?

Fertilizer for growing basil

Perilla has high medicinal value. Its roots, stems and leaves can all be used as medicine. When planting, sufficient base fertilizer should be applied, mainly farmyard manure. Topdressing in the later stage should mainly be nitrogen fertilizer. Topdressing is needed three times during the growth period, mainly according to the growth of the perilla seedlings, so as to increase the yield of perilla.

Perilla base fertilizer

For row sowing, 2000-3000kg of farmyard manure or other fertilizers can be applied per 667m2 during land preparation and turned into the soil. For hole sowing, 1500kg of human and animal manure and urine diluted with water can be applied into the holes, or 150kg of wood ash and 30-40kg of human and animal manure can be mixed with 150g of seeds for sowing. This method is actually a kind of fertilizer.

Topdressing with Perilla

The number of topdressing and amount of fertilizer for Perilla depends on the soil fertility. If the soil is poor or no base fertilizer is applied, apply chemical fertilizer every other week after emergence, 13 to 20 kg per 667 m2 each time, and 100 to 300 kg during the entire growth period. N, P, and K fertilizers are required.

Fertilizer for Perilla during its growth period

During the entire growth period of Perilla, N is 10kg, P is 10kg, and K is 6.7kg. The fertilizer distribution is as follows: N and P are used in combination in the seedling stage, and the amount used accounts for 15% of the total amount (total amount of N and P); N, P, and K are used in combination during the vigorous branching period, of which N and P account for 60% of the total amount of N and P fertilizers, and K accounts for 50% of the total amount.

Fertilizer for Perilla fruiting period

During the flowering and fruiting period of perilla, the amount of N and P used is 25% of its total amount, and the amount of K used is 50% of its total amount. If human and animal manure is used as topdressing, then apply diluted manure fertilizer once in the seedling stage, with a dosage of 1500kg per 667m2. From June to August, apply more concentrated manure fertilizer once a month, with a dosage of 1500kg per 667m2. The last topdressing should be done by cultivating the soil.

The correct way to fertilize Perilla

When fertilizing perilla, dig trenches in the soil, apply fertilizer into the trenches, then water, and fill the trenches with soil. This type of fertilization is more conducive to perilla absorption and has better fertilization effects. After the last fertilization, add soil to the perilla. Stop watering and fertilizing in mid-August to allow the perilla to smoothly enter reproductive growth.

Notes on fertilizing Perilla

Perilla has high medicinal value and the whole plant can be used as medicine. Therefore, nitrogen fertilizer should be the main fertilizer, and do not drip fertilizer on the leaves. Water once after each fertilization to dilute the fertilizer to avoid fertilizer damage.
