How to breed purple pearls

How to breed purple pearls

Division propagation

Division time

Purple Pearl is an evergreen tree and it is best to divide it in spring. The temperature and light at this time can meet the growth needs of purple pearls.

Preparation

Prepare tools: culture soil, broken tiles, broken bricks, coarse sand and various orchid pots, scissors

Allow the soil in the pot to dry properly before dividing to facilitate separation and avoid damaging the roots.

Division method

First separate the plant from the pot, being careful not to damage the roots. Shake off most of the soil so that the roots extend in the same direction, then split the root neck connected to the mother plant and plant the separated plants in pots. After transplanting, it needs to be watered and then placed under a shade for maintenance.

Cutting propagation method

There are two main methods of cuttings: leaf cuttings and branch cuttings.

Leaf cuttings

Place the intact mature leaves flat on moist sand with the leaf surface facing up and the back facing down.

Place the flower pot in a cool place and observe. After 10 days, when small leaves and new roots grow, proceed to the next step.

Bury the new roots in the soil, expose them to more sunlight, and water and fertilize them appropriately. It won’t be long before new plants will grow!

Cuttings

Choose single leaves or top branches of any length, but keep the cut dry, remove the lower leaves, and insert them into sandy soil. The sandy soil cannot be too wet, otherwise the cut ends will turn yellow and rot easily.

The cuttings will take root 20 days after they are cut, and can be potted when the roots are 2-3 cm long. The best time is generally August to October, when the roots will take root quickly and the survival rate will be high.
