Can mangosteen be grown in the north?

Can mangosteen be grown in the north?

Mangosteen can be planted in the north, but it basically will not bear fruit because mangosteen is a typical tropical fruit tree that requires air humidity of about 80% and a growth temperature of between 20-25°C. The northern climate cannot meet these requirements and the growth of the plant will be inhibited.

Mangosteen is native to Maluku and is currently widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions. It has also been introduced and planted in Fujian, Guangdong, Yunnan and other provinces in my country. It is generally not possible to plant it in the north.

How to grow mangosteen in the north

1. Temperature: Mangosteen prefers slightly higher temperatures. The most suitable growth temperature is 25-35℃. Around 25℃ can basically meet the growth conditions of mangosteen. The temperature in winter cannot be lower than 5℃, otherwise the plant will easily be frostbite.

2. Light: Mangosteen prefers weak light. It is best not to expose it to direct sunlight during cultivation. In summer, it needs to be shaded by about 40-75%, or placed in a semi-shaded environment.

3. Watering: Mangosteen requires a lot of water during its growth period, but water accumulation should not occur. It cannot be completely without watering in winter. The amount of water needed depends on the dryness and wetness of the soil.
