When is the best time to sow wintersweet?

Winter plum sowing time

The suitable time for sowing wintersweet is spring or summer, with the specific sowing time being February-March and July-August. The climate in these two time periods is relatively suitable, with suitable temperature and humidity, and the germination rate after sowing is relatively high.

Wintersweet sowing method

1. Processing seeds

First pour the wintersweet seeds into warm water and soak them for about 24 hours. Then remove the seeds floating on the water, take out the seeds sinking to the bottom of the water, and place them by the window to dry for later use.

2. Prepare the soil

The soil for sowing wintersweet seeds must be soft and thick. Prepare leaf mold and a small amount of river sand and mix them evenly. Then dry them in the sun for 24 hours to disinfect them. After that, they can be used.

3. Sowing

Pour most of the flower soil into the pot, level the soil surface, leaving a small amount of flower soil for later use, take out the dry seeds, and sprinkle them evenly on the soil surface. Then lightly cover the seeds with the remaining soil. Be careful not to cover it too thickly, about 1 cm, otherwise it will increase the difficulty of germination.

4. Post-maintenance

After sowing the wintersweet, it needs to be placed in a semi-shaded place to avoid strong light. You also need to pay attention to the condition of the flower soil. If the soil is dry, water it immediately to keep it moist. This way, it will sprout in about 7 days.

Key points for planting wintersweet

1. Watering

When planting plum blossoms, it is necessary to water them in time. It is best to keep the soil semi-moist. Pay attention to drainage in the rainy season to prevent water accumulation in the soil. In the dry season, it is necessary to replenish water in time. During the flowering period, it is not advisable to water too much.

2. Fertilization

From the sprouting of new leaves in spring to the growing season in June, apply fertilizer every 10-15 days. July to August is the flower bud differentiation period, add a mixture of organic fertilizer and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and apply organic fertilizer again in autumn. Water and loosen the soil immediately after each fertilization to keep the soil loose. No fertilizer is applied during the flowering period.

Wintersweet flowering time

Generally speaking, after sowing wintersweet, if the maintenance environment is suitable and it is properly cared for, it will take about 4-5 years for it to bloom.

The flowering period of wintersweet is in winter and spring. Generally, it will start to bloom in November. Its flowering period is relatively long and can last until the spring of the second year. Under normal circumstances, the flowering period can last until March.
