What fertilizer is good for garlic topdressing?

What fertilizer is good for garlic topdressing?

Garlic topdressing time

Fertilizer can be applied once after all garlic seedlings have emerged, using light human feces and urine to promote seedling growth. 70 days after sowing, apply decomposed human and animal manure plus chemical fertilizers again. During the differentiation of flower buds, potassium and nitrogen fertilizers can be applied. Nitrogen and potassium fertilizers can be applied during the garlic swelling period. Fertilizer can also be applied once before the garlic stems are harvested.

What fertilizer to use for garlic topdressing

Garlic can be fertilized several times during its growth period. Garlic with garlic bulbs and garlic shoots as the target products can be fertilized 2-3 times a year. Nitrogen fertilizer can be applied when 4-5 leaves grow. Fertilizer can be applied again during the bulb expansion period, such as urea and potassium sulfate type compound fertilizer. Potassium sulfate type compound fertilizer can be applied when about 50% of the shoots are harvested.

Should I use urea or compound fertilizer for garlic topdressing?

Whether to use urea or compound fertilizer for garlic topdressing needs to be determined according to the actual growth conditions. When garlic enters the green period, urea can be used. Alternatively, you can choose to use compound fertilizer. Compound fertilizer contains not only nitrogen fertilizer, but also phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, which can supplement more elements.

Garlic topdressing method

1. Fertilization principles: When fertilizing garlic, it is necessary to base it on the soil fertility and the growth conditions of the plants, and grasp the fertilization principle of "light at the beginning, heavy in the middle, and supplementary at the end". During the growth period, it is necessary to prevent the excessive growth of branches and leaves, and also to avoid lack of fertilizer and premature aging in the later period.

2. Land preparation and fertilization: Before sowing garlic, the soil needs to be renovated and sufficient base fertilizer needs to be applied. Farmyard manure, chlorine-based compound fertilizer, ferrous sulfate, manganese sulfate, borax, zinc sulfate, and copper sulfate can be applied to the soil.

3. Apply fertilizer during jointing: When garlic enters the greening stage, no special management is required. Topdressing should be done during the jointing stage. Nitro-compound fertilizer can be applied. The second topdressing should be done about half a month later, with an application rate of about 20 kilograms per mu.

4. Apply differentiated fertilizer: Garlic enters the sprouting stage and has a greater demand for phosphorus fertilizer. Wait until the garlic sprouts emerge (tail) and then apply high-phosphorus and high-potassium compound fertilizer. Dissolve it first and then apply it.

5. Foliar fertilization: Foliar fertilization of garlic should be carried out when the weather is good, avoiding the hot noon. Choose general calcium or sulfur-based compound fertilizer and soak it in water for 12 hours. Take the clarified liquid and spray it on the soil. In the middle and late stages, you can spray fertilizer on the leaves 1 to 2 times.
