Can Lithops be propagated by leaf cuttings? Methods and steps for propagation

Can Lithops be grown through leaf cuttings?

Lithops is a plant that can be propagated by leaf cuttings. The time can be chosen in early spring or late autumn. It is recommended that the maximum temperature should not exceed 28℃, which is more conducive to the survival of the plant after cuttings.

Methods and steps for leaf cutting of Lithops

1. Preparation of matrix

Soil is also very important for lithops leaf cuttings. You can use nutrient soil, river sand, peat soil, etc. to prepare it. Note that you must wash it with clean water several times before use and disinfect it before use.

2. Take cuttings

Cut off the leaves or stems of the lithops, which should have 3-4 leaf nodes on them, disinfect the wounds, dry them, and insert them into a slightly moist substrate. As long as the substrate is not too dry or waterlogged, new shoots will soon grow.

Main points for the maintenance of Lithops after leaf cutting

1. Lithops does not have high requirements for water. After leaf cuttings, you can follow the principle of "don't water unless the soil is dry" and keep the soil slightly moist.

2. After cuttings, Lithops only needs a small amount of sunlight and potassium fertilizer, which can promote the balanced development of the plant. It is necessary to avoid direct sunlight or long periods of time without light.
