How to prune dragon fruit

When to prune dragon fruit

The best time to prune pitaya is during its peak growth period. By pruning during this period, the plant can return to normal as soon as possible and will not have much impact on the plant's growth.

The pruned branches of pitaya need to be placed in a sun-proof place for about a week for cuttings. After the wound is completely healed, one-third of the branch is inserted into the prepared soil and watered thoroughly. After cuttings, the flower pot is placed in an environment of about 20 degrees Celsius. Water it in time when it is dry and avoid direct sunlight.

Dragon fruit pruning

During the growth of dragon fruit seedlings, if many side branches sprout, they need to be pruned in time. Only one strong upward branch needs to be retained, and the rest of the side branches should be cut off. This is conducive to concentrating nutrients and supplying strong branches to climb upward.

When pitaya is about to enter the flower bud differentiation period, if you want the old branches to stop growing too tall, you need to prune off all the tender buds on the plant so that all the nutrients can accumulate in the old branches, which is conducive to flowering.

Dragon Fruit Pruning Tips

When pitaya is in the seedling stage, you should remove the extra branches and choose to keep the stronger and thicker branches. When the plant grows to 10 cm in height, you can pinch it. In addition, when the plant blooms, you should also trim the branches, keep the branches with better flowering, and trim the rest.

Dragon fruit pruning precautions

Dragon fruit pruning should be done on sunny days to facilitate wound healing and avoid invasion of pathogens. The pruning knives should be sharp to avoid damaging the branches. All tools should be disinfected with alcohol during pruning. Pruning, bud thinning, flower thinning and fruit thinning should be done in a timely manner to prevent excessive consumption of nutrients before operating.
