How to prune eucalyptus

When to prune eucalyptus

According to the growth habits of eucalyptus, it only needs to be pruned once a year, and when pruning the plant, it is best to do so based on the overall growth.

It is best not to use cuttings for eucalyptus branches after pruning, as the chance of survival through cuttings is relatively low. It is recommended to use the sowing method, which is a more common method with a higher survival rate.

How to prune eucalyptus

When pruning eucalyptus, you need to prune the branches and leaves according to the actual growth of the plant. Mainly prune the weak branches of the plant and retain the strong branches. The length of each pruning should not be too long. You can cut off half the length of the branches and leaves.

Generally, it is enough to keep 35cm long side branches along the main trunk of eucalyptus, and the extra branches on the plant should also be pruned off to keep the strong side branches with good growth. After pruning, disinfection should be carried out to allow the pruning cuts to heal better.

Eucalyptus pruning tips

When pruning eucalyptus, pay attention to the growth process of the flowers. Do not prune branches that have not grown well. Regularly prune the tops of the branches to make the flowers fuller and more beautiful.

In fact, as long as the flowers are the type that overflow the pot, they must be pruned in time. Only by pruning the flowers frequently can its shape be guaranteed.

Eucalyptus grows fast after pruning

If you want eucalyptus to grow fast, you usually use the topping method to prune it. When topping, you can cut off the excess branches on the trunk, leaving the branches that grow better, which can promote rapid growth of the plant.

Tips for pruning eucalyptus

Although eucalyptus is very resistant to pruning, you still need to be careful not to prune too much each time, that is, not more than 1/2 of the branches and leaves. After pruning, you must also pay attention to maintaining sufficient light, and it will grow rapidly soon.
