Planting and management methods of watermelon seedlings

Watermelon, a great summer delicacy, is loved by people for its sweetness and juiciness. To ensure the quality and yield of watermelon, planting management is particularly important. Let’s learn about the planting and management methods of watermelon seedlings .

1. Site selection and land preparation

Choose a flat, deep soil and well-drained plot for planting. When preparing the land, deep plow the soil to enhance air permeability and water retention. At the same time, apply decomposed organic fertilizer to provide sufficient nutrients for the watermelon seedlings.

2. Seed selection and seedling cultivation

Select high-quality watermelon seeds and soak them for germination. Soak in warm water for 8-10 hours, dry and place in a warm and humid environment for germination. After the seeds turn white, sow them in seedling trays and maintain suitable temperature and humidity to promote strong growth of seedlings.

3. Transplanting and Planting

Transplant the watermelon seedlings when they have 2-3 true leaves. Dig the planting holes, apply compound fertilizer , transplant carefully, water the roots, and help the seedlings adapt to the new environment.

4. Management during the seedling stage

Water sufficiently before sowing. When water is scarce, choose to water in the morning on a sunny day to ventilate and reduce humidity. Ventilate in the morning after the seedlings emerge and end when the temperature drops. Adjust the vents to prevent the seedlings from feeling uncomfortable. The temperature should be controlled during the true leaf growth period, about 22℃ during the day and 16℃ at night, and the temperature should be lowered for 7 days before transplanting. Provide sufficient sunlight, feed at sunrise, and increase the light exposure time.

5. Field Management

Keep the soil moist, follow the principle of "wet when dry", and avoid water accumulation. Apply compound fertilizer during the vine extension and fruit expansion stages to meet the nutrient needs for growth. When the vines grow long, build a frame to guide them, and use the three-vine pruning method to protect the main vine and two side vines. Closely monitor, timely prevent and control, and alternate medications to avoid drug resistance.

6. Harvest and Storage

Harvest the fruit when it is ripe, handle it with care to prevent damage, and store it in a cool and ventilated place to extend the shelf life.

In summary, watermelon, as the "national fruit", is loved by almost everyone. With the continuous development and progress of planting technology, watermelon seedling management is particularly critical. I hope these suggestions will be helpful to watermelon growers.
