Is the pistachio yield high? What is the yield per mu?

Is pistachio production high?

The yield of pistachios is not high. The plant grows slowly and will bear fruit after 5-7 years of planting. The annual yield of an adult fruit tree is around 100-200 kilograms. Nowadays, varieties such as Kerman, Dahan, and Silola are relatively high-yielding.

How to grow pistachios for high yield

1. Choose an orchard

Pistachios like to grow in soil with deep soil layers and good air permeability, and the plants like sunlight, so the best planting site is a sheltered, sunny hillside.

2. Planting

First place the pistachio tree at the planting site, then fill the soil while raising the seedling, so that its root system can fully stretch. After planting, water it thoroughly in time, which can increase the survival rate of the plant.

3. Water and fertilizer management

When the fruit trees are still young trees, base fertilizer should be applied once a year. When they reach the fruit-bearing period, fertilizers should be applied three times a year. The first application should be mainly quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer, the second application should be mainly nitrogen and potassium fertilizer when the fruit is swelling, and finally composting should be done after the harvest.

4. Pruning

If the planting density of the orchard is high, it is necessary to prune in time according to the free spindle shape. If the density is low, a natural open-heart shape should be adopted, and the pruning principle of more thinning and less cutting should be adhered to.
